Emptiness

This design explores the relationship between external labels and internal content through the interchange of the spine and inner pages and the interaction of thermochromic ink, focusing on the multiple symbolic representations of "emptiness." The only identifiable punctuation mark on the spine serves a function of pausing but lacks independent meaning. These symbols, as points of division and pause, suggest how individuals, in their pursuit of surface nodes or external labels in life, often overlook the internal coherence and holistic significance that is fleeting. The isolated state of these symbols reflects how people gradually lose sight of their inner essence while seeking external validation, slipping into unconscious numbness.
"Emptiness" is not just visual blankness but also a metaphor for the inner world. The narrowing inner pages symbolize the compression of self-exploration, while the blank spaces represent the potential and unrealized self yet to be written. "Emptiness" signifies both the lost inner space and hints at latent possibilities.
The application of thermochromic ink at the incision further deepens the dynamic meaning of "emptiness." The colors change with temperature, showcasing the fluidity of "emptiness" and symbolizing the interaction between the individual and the external world, implying the impact of external evaluations on internal perception. This shift suggests that as individuals seek external validation, their self-awareness and experiences gradually erode.
By exploring the misalignment of the individual's internal and external relationships, the work calls on viewers to reflect on whether they have overlooked the real moments of life and self-awareness, prompting them to rediscover themselves from within "emptiness."
